Quote Du Jour: Michelle Obama

“The great jazz musician Miles Davis – one of my husband’s favourites – once said, ‘Don’t play what’s there, play what’s not there.’ I think that is pretty much a good description of what each of you does every day: You’re playing what’s not there.”

-Michelle Obama said while honoring the design industry as a whole during America’s Cooper-Hewitt National Design Awards, held at the White House.

A Clueless Calvin Klein

Calvin Klein has decided to recreate the infamous white dress that Cher (Alicia Silverstone) wore in “Clueless.” The idea came about during a meeting between Calvin Klein’s creative director, Francisco Costa, and Ilaria Urbinati, co-owner of the LA-based label Confederacy.

“I went into a spazzy explanation of how my formative-years love of Calvin was partly based on the little white Calvin mini dress Alicia Silverstone wears in Clueless, I re-enacted the entire scene for him (you know, ‘Cher, what are you wearing?’ ‘A dress!’ ‘Says who?’ ‘Calvin Klein!’ ‘Well, go put something over it!’ ‘Duh, I was just going to!’ and then she comes out with the clear trench). So of course I said, Francisco, you need to remake that dress.” said Urbinati.

The dress will be sold at Confederacy stores as well as online at http://www.shopconfederacy.com/shop/.

Lady Gaga is $1 Million Richer

A Lady Gaga fanatic, also a Russian billionaire, paid big money to the singer to land a role in her latest music video Alejandro. $1 million to be exact! Arkady, the out-of-his-mind fan, appears in the video wearing a black leather hat and coat alongside Gaga.

“Yes it was me in the clip, but I can’t give further details.” said the 30 year old.

Apparently Lady Gaga has also been sworn into secrecy to keep all the details of his appearance to herself. Just when you think you’ve heard and seen everything, you realize there is much more to this crazy world.

Anna Wintour Doesn’t Use Elevators?!

NEW YORK - MAY 03: Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour attends the Costume Institute Gala Benefit to celebrate the opening of the 'American Woman: Fashioning a National Identity' exhibition at The Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 3, 2010 in New York City. (Photo by Stephen Lovekin/Getty Images)

Anna Winour is not only the editor-in-chief of Vogue and probably one of the most powerful women in fashion, but she’s also the first one to get to her seat at a fashion show and the first one to leave. Not to mention, she has big bodyguards to lead the way and sometimes even carry her.

Tim Gunn saw Anna Wintour leaving the Peter Som show at the Metropolitan Pavilion back in 2006 and claims that he saw her being carried by her bodyguards.

“I was with a colleague from Parsons, and we had been discussing the will-she-or-won’t-she-take-the-elevator question, so we ran over to the elevator bay to see if Anna would deign to get on. She wasn’t there. Then we looked over the stairway railing. And what did we see but Anna being carried down the stairs. The bodyguards had made a fireman’s lock and were racing her from landing to landing. She was sitting on their crossed arms.. I ran to the window to see if they would put her down on the sidewalk or carry her to the car like that. They carried her to the car. And I thought: I will never forget this.” said Tim Gunn.

We wonder why Wintour was avoiding the elevator? Or maybe this is normal behavior on her part since Tim Gunn and his colleagues were debating whether or not she will take the elevator.

Quote Du Jour: Kelly Cutrone on the ‘Future of Fashion’

Feb. 02, 2010 - New ork, New ork, United States - Kell Cutrone Book Signing of ''If ou Have to Cr, Go Outside''.Barnes and Noble, Lincoln Center, NC.Februar 2, 2010.Photos b , Photos Inc 2010.KELL CUTRONE.K64062SMO. © Red Carpet Pictures

“Here is what I think is the future: Street life and life style. Style is in; fashion luxury, forget it. It’s over. Gucci, Vuitton, Hermes … all those places are really great, go for it. That business exists in a city called Paris, France. That’s where that is. Those businesses will continue. Retail business, pretty much over. I think people who sell to retail companies are people who can’t afford their own stores. The poor boys — Old Navy, J.Crew, Gap … they already knew that and aren’t wholesaling. Editorial, magazine, we are going to say buh-bye to them as we know them. They will still exist but everything is on the internet.”

-Kelly Cutrone gave this answer to a girl asking about where to look for a job in fashion, while Cutrone was speaking at the Bryant Park Reading Room Series yesterday.

Victoria Beckham Will Be A Cartoon Character

Victoria Beckham is not only a singer and designer anymore. She is also a cartoon character! For a special episode of SpongeBob SquarePants, she has been animated to play the role of Queen Amphitrite for the episode called The Clash of Triton.

“I was so thrilled as my children love the show. When I told the boys I was going to be on the show, they were so excited. I had such a great time recording the voice of Queen Amphitrite. How fun to be queen for a day!” Victoria told British Vogue.

I’m sure it will be exciting to see how she translates into a cartoon character under the sea. The 30 minute episode will air on July 5th. I’ll definitely be tuning in to see if Victoria’s cartoon version will be sporting a bob and platforms!
