One of the most hyped shows of MBFWA this year, the Romance Was Born Spring Summer 2013/2014 collection was inspired by the psychedelic creations of their collaborator, Tanya Schultz of Pip and Pop, Disney's acid trip Alice in Wonderland and the excitement of late 1960s flower power. This collection was titled "Mushroom Magic" for good reason.
Soft, pastel pinks, greens and blues sometimes contrasted with bold colours of red and navy were splashed across the garments. Organic prints reminiscent of The Beatles' Yellow Submarine were on display in voluminous sleeves, skirts and flares. Oh...and ruffles and sequins, and ruffles and more sequins!
Accessories ranged from beaded alien antennas and plastic pursed lips to shoes that can only be described as out of this world. All 37 pairs of shoes were created by Shoes of Prey in a collaboration between Romance Was Born and stylist Caterina Scardino. Surely we have died and gone to summer shoe heaven.
The fairy floss pink, triple peplum dress is so sweet it looks good enough to eat. Any outfit featuring the feathered flared pants was a stand out and the black, pink and blue floral dress with sheer, puffy sleeves and layered skirt is unforgettable.
This collection truly earned itself the title of most talked about show of MBFWA. The setting, a magical creation of glitter, speckled eggs and mushrooms, was a favorite look in itself. Each piece in the collection was a unique and eye-grabbing explosion that displays a fearless attitude rarely seen on the runway.
