How to Instantly Feel Better About Your Face, Kinda

IDK about you but, there are just some days where I can't stand the sight of my face. You know, you look in the mirror and your complexion looks all sorts of dull, your eyebrows are two different shapes, and you have the urge to randomly take some fine-grit sandpaper to skin in order to remove what feels like a ton of gunk. Before you decide abrasive exfoliating and a drastic auto-haircut are the way to go for a fresh look, check out these tried-and-tested ways to feel better about your face, even for just a second.

1. Show your neglected eyebrows some love already.

This revelation usually occurs when no matter how precisely you put your makeup on, something is still way off with your face. That something is usually those random patches of hair above your eyes called eyebrows. Seriously, can we just for one second think about eyebrows and how weird they are? Like, why? Anyhow, get those things waxed, threaded, plucked, whatever and you'll instantly feel a million times better, guaranteed.

2. Wash your face EVERY evening.

Spend at least one minute thoroughly washing your face with a cleanser in order to make sure all traces of makeup are gone. I feel better when I use cleansers that make my face feel squeaky clean – no matter how many people tell me faces shouldn't feel tight after washing, but I live for that shit.  If you have a cleansing brush like a Clarisonic or a manual one, put it to use and remember to moisturize after. BTW this is totally dependent on your skin type and current skin regimen; If it aint broke don't fix it.

3. Find powerful Vitamin C serum and use that shit.

You're going to want to use products with Vitamin C in them to give your drab complexion a boost. Face products that contain Vitamin C are packed with antioxidants that slow down the aging process and protect you from free radicals that damage the skin. Doctor Oz even believes you'll be able to drop a decade from your face if you use the stuff.

4. Find a foundation color that REALLY suits you.

Nothing sucks more than constantly buying foundations that you think are are perfect for you in the store, only to be greeted with an orange or gray-tinged surprised when you get home. Foundation shopping is tricky because well, it's all about trial and error. Your best bet is to avoid seeking help from pushy sales associates and find one who seems genuinely interested in helping you try a variety of shades without the pressure. Sephora even has this high-tech device that will configure the Pantone color equivalent of your skin shade so that you can shop for foundations. If you're a drugstore gal,  try purchasing makeup at stores with a chill return policy and buy a couple of hues at a time in order to use them in different situations to see which you like best. If you've almost stumbled upon the perfect shade and it's just a bit off, try mixing it with a lighter or darker foundation.

5. Use a primer!

Before you put on any makeup, you've got to put a primer on that pretty little face. Why? It makes a world of difference by creating a smooth canvas for you to work on. Primers fill in pores, fine lines and help with random dry patches on your skin, you know the ones that look especially ashy after you put on makeup.

6. Try a new face mask or get a facial.

There are so many products on the market these days that rival those used at ritzy spas. Treating yourself to a facial is always nice but, if you're like me and appreciate a veg' session at home, you can purchase a face mask for a similar effect – that is if you can go without experiencing the freakishly gentle massaging of facial products into your skin by estheticians – who BTW, all apparently have angel-soft hands, it feels like. Wash your face, put on a mask, and tune into Bravo for a stimulating dose of high-quality TV or play that damn Kim Kardashian game to kill time.

7. Realize that you're beautiful and don't get too hung up on this crap.

Everyone has shitty skin occasionally, especially when PMSing. Don't let those girls that have mastered the Instagram selfie fool you, the filters are where it's at. Legit – I've taken a selfie with breakouts, an upper lip that needed waxing, and absolutely no makeup just to see the magic of a good filter (Amaro, Rise, etc.) and DAMN do those things work. 

8. Leave the house without makeup one day.

I chose the worst of skin days to run errands without absolutely any makeup on. I even left the house with greasy-moisturizer-face which we all know puts red splotches on a nice, shiny display. At first, I was all sorts of insecure and reached for my makeup bag in the car, only to realize I left it at home. Screwed – I gave up and kind of stopped thinking about it. I looked around me and realized I was the only person who gave a crap about the fact that I wasn't wearing makeup. After doing this a few times a week, I came to the conclusion that I shouldn't have to cover up my face with makeup in order to leave the house for whatever reason and oddly enough, the less crap I put on my skin, the better it started to look.
