The color red is sexy, powerful, desirable, and classic. We all know this. For this reason I am completely and utterly obsessed with red lipstick. If you don't feel like yourself or you really want a little extra something to add before stepping out for the night, a little pop of red might be just what you're looking for.

Now, I'm all for jumping right into things but when it comes to a bold look like red lips you want to show it off correctly and precisely.

You'll need a lip liner close to the shade of lipstick you're using, the lipstick, and a concealer or the NYX Wonderstick to clean up around your lips (same concept as using concealer or illuminator around your eyebrows after you've filled them in).

YouTube provides countless tutorials for how to properly perfect a bold colored lip so I won't describe it here, but I will recommend three lip products I've used to get a perfect red lip.

Recommendation #1

MAC Cherry Lip Pencil in Cherry, $16

MAC Cherry Lip Pencil in Cherry, $16

This is a must have for lining your lips, but also if you want a subtle red matte approach. Read below if you want my reasoning for being into matte lips. This will stay on all day and it has looked good on every complexion I've seen it on, what's not to love, right?

Recommendation #2

MAC Retro Matte Lipstick in Ruby Woo, $16

MAC Retro Matte Lipstick in Ruby Woo, $16

Ruby Woo is my girl. She is my go-to, always with me, favorite red lipstick of all time. I'm not saying I've dabbled with every red lipstick known to man but when you think you've got the best what else is there to be curious about? Matte adds a sense of mystery to me so this lipstick, in my opinion, is about as clutch as your favorite LBD.

Recommendation #3

Revlon Colorstay Liquid Lipstick in Tomato True Red, $10

Revlon Colorstay Liquid Lipstick in Tomato True Red, $10

This was my first introduction into wearing red on my lips and it's perfect for first timers because the applicator is precise, you can layer on the color for intensity, and once it's on & dry it does not budge so you do not have to worry about having red teeth halfway through your night.

These three are just recommendations but I highly advise playing around in your local Sephora/department stores to get a taste of what red (or red-blue or red-orange or pink or peach, or purple etc) you think suits you perfectly and don't be afraid to build up an army of rainbow lips. I've learned from a close friend of mine that it's 'the more the merrier' when it comes to makeup choices.
