Study Finds Men Who Post A Lot of Selfies Are Low-Key Psychopaths
I always wonder the what the mindset is of a dude who takes a ton of selfies. Call me sexist and backwards but, selfies seem like something guys generally don't feel like doing on the regular – so clearly, when I spot even the cutest and coolest of men posting a few too many, it throws me off for some reason. Case-in-point: James Franco but, I might be able to make an exception.
A study performed by the University of Ohio found that men who posted selfies frequently scored higher on measures of narcissism and psychopathy than other men. Well now I totally feel validated for ever feeling some type of way about guys and excessive selfies...
"Narcissism is marked by a belief that you’re smarter, more attractive and better than others, but with some underlying insecurity. Psychopathy involves a lack of empathy and regard for others and a tendency toward impulsive behavior."
Oh damn, it's all making so much sense now. This study doesn't even consider the ridiculous captions that accompany all of these selfies which I won't go into because you already know.
Jesse Fox, lead author of the study and communication professor at the university says, “It’s not surprising that men who post a lot of selfies and spend more time editing them are more narcissistic, but this is the first time it has actually been confirmed in a study.” She and her team are working on follow-up to this study but, on women. I assume the results will be just as terrifying to read.
