The Spring 2011 Trend Guide

Spring 2011 is all about the resurgence of color and 70′s style. Pajama-inspired garments are deemed chic and flatforms give our feet some much needed rest. Shades of white and orange are haute and so are full pleated skirts. This is just a snippet of Spring trends that will carry over to Summer but we can go on and on.

Line We Heart: Patterson J. Kincaid

Patterson J. Kincaid make ridiculously cool clothes for ridiculously cool girls. Think versatile yet chic pieces, perfect for wearing either alone, or layered up on a cool summers’ night.  According to designer Chelsey Santry, the Spring collection was “inspired by travel” in the sense that it was created “to feel like a girl’s closet of found items”.  A collection of found items which look incredible when worn together, it has to be said.

The beautiful juxtaposition of textures, including washed denim, hand crocheted cardigans and embroidered tanks and tees, provides a luxe take on casual.  Slouchy silhouettes and striking prints combine to make an effortless, summer festival style.

It seems Santrys’ ability to “embody the lifestyle” of her customer in the collection is spot on, successfully anticipating and designing what they want before they even know themselves.

So what’s next for Patterson J. Kincaid? With an introduction of a swim line, as well as talks of a shoe line, in 2012, it appears the label is going from strength to strength.  “We really are  only starting to scratch the surface of the Patterson J. Kincaid brand”, Santry tells us exclusively, news which is no doubt music to the ears of the brands’ many admirers.

The No Fuss Valentine’s Day Gift Guide

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner and that means hoards of clueless people running around trying to find a gift for that one girl who has everything. Try to be creative we don’t wanna urge you to go and buy exactly what we’ve selected. Instead, use this as a reference if you’re stumped. Whether it be a convenient planner, an interesting read or an equally interesting (but usually expensive) pair of shoes, it’s you’re call. Remember, buying a girl a pricey bag isn’t going to get her to fall in love with you, she will be just as excited over a box of chocolates but if 2011 marks a special time in your relationship and you want to impress her, you know what to do.

8 Questions for the Woman Behind the Line: Rosa Pushér

Tammy Pushér is the President and Creative Director of the classical Hollywood inspired line, Rosa Pushér, appropriately named after her fashionable mother. Tammy started Rosa Pushér in February of last year to fulfill her childhood dream of creating gorgeous clothes that would  emulate her mother’s timeless style. This line’s  glamorous, classic and figure-flattering designs is what landed Rosa Pushér on our radar. We got the chance to catch up with Tammy, who gives us some great industry tips and talks about her latest collection.

TRÈS DOPE: Tell us the inspiration behind your latest collection.
TAMMY PUSHÉR: Our collection is very classic Hollywood inspired. We’ve decided to pay Homage to Grace Kelly for our SS 2011 Collection. We have very graceful and elegant pieces in our latest collection.

TRÈS DOPE: How did you know fashion design was your calling?
TAMMY PUSHÉR: I’ve always had a great eye for fashion ever since I was a little girl. I use to walk around in my Mom’s high heels, big hats and pearl necklaces so it started when I was really young.

TRÈS DOPE: : What’s it like starting your own line? Any struggles?
TAMMY PUSHÉR: It’s very tough in the beginning. Of course nothing is easy at first, however you have to keep at it and it will pick up. We’ve recently gotten connected with a few Heavy weights in the Fashion Industry in which is also very helpful.

TRÈS DOPE: Who are some designers that influence you?
TAMMY PUSHÉR: I am influenced by Carolina Herrera, Donna Karen, Alexander McQueen, Tom Ford, Jeanne Lanvin, Garavani Valentino, Christian Louboutin, and Rachel Roy being such a young and talented fashion designer.

TRÈS DOPE: What type of woman wears your line?
TAMMY PUSHÉR: I design for women of all ages who are strong and elegant. We design for the everyday strong woman who sets a great example in life. The Wealthy Socialite, celebrities and very successful women who knows that they get what they pay for.

TRÈS DOPE: What celebrity would you like to see wearing one of your designs?
TAMMY PUSHÉR: I would love to dress the First Lady, Michelle Obama, even though she isn’t really a celebrity. I am currently dressing Devorah Rose a Socialite from New York, I’ve already dressed Countess Luann from The Housewives of New York. I just want to dress Elegant and beautiful women who are strong leaders.

TRÈS DOPE: If you could give aspiring designers an insider tip, what would it be?
TAMMY PUSHÉR: They have to have a passion for what they are doing. If I didn’t have a passion for what I’m doing, I would’ve given up a very long time ago. Stay true to your vision and keep at what you’re doing. Also be very careful about who they allow to hire as PR or anything of that nature. This Industry is very catty and you can’t always tell if the individuals are genuine or not.

TRÈS DOPE: What’s next for Rosa Pusher?
TAMMY PUSHÉR: We are currently working on our Rita Hayworth inspired collection and God willing that we are able to debut our Fall 2011 collection during NYFW. We are working on a few things with some heavy hitters in the industry right now; it looks like 2011 is going to be our year.

In The Shopping Cart: January 2011

A new year, a new feature. Every month we’ll be showcasing our theoretical shopping cart. The month of January is always a cray one considering it’s the start of a fresh year and by this time we’re kind of sick of Winter and are ready to fall into Spring. Because the weather around this time doesn’t usually permit (that’s even the case for us here in LA now) it’s virtually impossible to start wearing Spring fashions without looking like a moron or freezing our asses off. Above are some pieces that are wearable in the colder months and can easily find a place in your Spring wardrobe.

Not listed above:
Sigerson Morrison Boots via The Outnet.
Chanel Fragrance Set via Nordstrom.
Effy Wedge Boots via Filthy Magic.

Homme Trendspotting: Shades of Blue

It feels so cliché for us to say this, but for Spring menswear, blue is the new black. Nearly every collection for men featured a blue suit or blazer and some collections were completely based on the color. Celebrities are all ready hopping on the trend with Jake Gyllenhaal being the most notable fan. While it may be hard to pull of an entirely blue suit, opt for incorporating blue versions of staples like blazers and jackets in your wardrobe.

Beauté Trend: Strong Brows

While strong brows are generally prevalent and preferred on the runway, cameos made by thin, bleached or nonexistent brows had us confused. Not to worry, for 2011, strong brows are here to stay so take note from Camilla Belle and Emma Watson and put the compulsion to over-tweeze behind you. Got thin brows? Don’t fret, the products like the TouchBack brow marker above will help you achieve the look.

Designer File #2: Felder Felder

Spring 2011

The Felder Women

WHO? Identical twins – Annette and Daniela Felder.

FROM? The designer duo originally hails from Germany, but after extensive travelling around Europe, India and America, eventually settled in London, enrolling at Central Saint Martins. It was whilst studying that they launched their own label in 2006, which went from strength to strength, garnering mass interest from A-listers and major fashion publications alike. After securing sponsorship in the form of the New Gen/Topshop scheme, which provides support for up and coming designers, Felder Felder went on to design an in-store installation for Selfridges, and have their rock ‘n’ roll inspired designs stocked by Browns Focus in London.

WHAT? The girls have become renowned for their grunge aesthetic, which plays with layering, embellishment and texture, creating edgy designs with feminine elements. With their ever-present mini dresses and leather jackets often featuring a wide range of heavy metal adornments, ranging from hanging chains to studs and rivets, their designs are not for the faint-hearted. As well as designing for the catwalk, the Felder twins were also invited to create the new uniforms for uber luxurious restaurant Nobu on Berkley Street in London. With stars like Rihanna and Florence Welch wearing their creations, Felder Felder’s future is set to be very bright indeed.

WHERE? As well as having their own online store, you can buy into Felder Felder’s glamorous, grunge vibe by visiting Liberty in London, Debut in New York or Cecylia in Melbourne, Australia.

TREND REPORT: All things Camel and Tan

When shopping for basics this Fall skip the black and opt for camel and tan shades. Military inspired boots and outerwear are here to stay this season but stand out in the lighter hue. When shopping military you don’t have to go for cheap looking threads and kicks because you think you can’t find a deal: These combatesque boots from Shop Rouche are only $39.99 and this Military cape from Topshop (capes are also huge this season) is $79. Shearling of course is one of Fall’s biggest trends thanks to the folks at Burberry and Helmut Lang so why not kill two birds with one stone and choose a camel shearling piece? Lastly, if camels and tans aren’t your clothing colors of choice, accessorize with a  clutch like this grommet embellished one from Topshop or a scarf like the one shown above by Alexander McQueen.

-HOMME-SHOPPING GUIDE: Fall 2010

-THE BREAKDOWN-

-Camel coats are huge this Fall; update your wardrobe with this fashion staple. When buying lighter colored quotes, go for high quality ones that are sure to last you quite a long time like the Marni coat pictured above.

-Flannel was never bigger than it was last year… to the point of it nearly being incredibly obnoxious. Instead of sporting gingham print opt for the Noveau Plaid look like this subtle button-down by Burberry.

-A Quilted Leather Jacket adds the perfect touch of texture to a classic.

-Pair Cognac Oxfords with your monochromatic Fall wardrobe staples. To give them more show-time sans much effort, messily cuff your pants when wearing them.

-The shoe of the season is the Combat Boot. Everyone has been spotted wearing them from Alexander Skarsgard to Usher.

-Haute Sneakers like the ones above by Yves Saint Laurent can easily be dressed up and provide a high fashion touch to a normally low-key look.

-Shearling Jackets are a must-have this season and looked elegantly pulled together on the Burberry runway. The Spurr Police Shearling Jacket above is not your dad’s sherpa; It’s beautifully tailored and edgy enough to be worn by any man sans problem.

-Ditch the aviators for now and update your look with some tortoise plastic rimmed shades like these by Yves Saint Laurent.

-Opt for subtle striped knits these season instead of loud colored stripes like last year.
