Runway Recap: Givenchy Spring 2012

Inspiration
Although Riccardo Tisci claimed he was inspired by mermaids and surfers, Givenchy‘s Spring 2012 RTW collection was way more tailored than laid back. With strong, tough elements, you could have told us he was inspired by a shark.

Top Trends
Skin-tight pants paired with structured pieces that were a little longer over the booty strutted down the runway next to swirly jackets. And it worked.

Accessories
Speaking of shark inspiration, did we mention the shark-tooth heels? Yeah, that happened.  Oh, and oversized shark teeth worn on necklaces? Ditto.

Favorite Looks
The head-to-toe sequined suit was truly stunning and made us wish it was acceptable to dress like we were at Studio 54 all day every day.

Thoughts
The use of eel skin, shark and stingray as accents made for unexpectedly awesome focal points. All of the looks on Givenchy’s runway were pretty much flawless.

Twitter Pics: Ciara and Ricardo Tisci Tongue Eachother at Givenchy

We know they are pretty chummy because we always spot Ciara wearing Givenchy but we didn’t know Ricardo Tisci and the singer were that close. The fashion house’s creative director and Cici were spotted being silly (and we’re assuming tipsy) at Paris Fashion Week.

Item of the Week: Givenchy ‘Bahia’ Clutch

This bag’s art-decoesque brass buckles give this seemingly simple piece some serious edge. Totally versatile, the Bahia clutch by Givenchy far from boring.

Ricardo Tisci Puts Galliano Succession Rumors to Bed

Not me guys. Sorry.

We can go on and on about how we think Ricardo Tisci will leave Givenchy to replace John Galliano but it basically ain’t gonna happen.

The designer tells Interview Magazine:

“Sincerely, I feel sorry for John. But for this moment I am leaving aside all the gossip of ‘I am going here, I am going there,’ because there is a lot of gossip circulating and there always will be. I will tell you, in this moment, I am very happy at Givenchy and it is a moment in which I am bringing the game to the next level. So I tell you, I feel at home. It’s as if it were my son … For now, it is still Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci, and I think that it will be for a long time, because it will be difficult to evict me from my house.

There you have it. Ricardo isn’t going anywhere and we’re ecstatic. Now who’s the next designer due for a Dior rumor?

Jennifer, Mila and Cate Werked The Red Carpet Last Night #Oscars

Those of us with #fashiongirlproblems were beyond dead (cremated dead) when we saw Cate Blanchett walk out in Spring Givenchy Haute Couture at the Oscars last night. Tweeters went cray when they spotted Blanchett in the fashion forward gown and also flipped when they saw Mila Kunis in Elie Saab and Jennifer Lawrence in Calvin Klien and for good reason: These gowns totally saved the boring mess that was the Oscars. We want to thank these ladies for taking some serious risks with their fashion choices this year. What do you think?

Givenchy Sues BCBG Max Azria for Copying Nightingale Bag

Left to right: Givenchy Nightingale Purse, BCBG Rembrandt Purse

A lawsuit was filed in LA by Givenchy against BCBG Max Azria over what those familiar with legal terms will understand as Trade Dress. Trade Dress pretty much means that designers have the right to protect their products and packaging from being copied in terms of color schemes, sizes, textures, graphics, decorations etc. For example: note the bag’s stitching and handle shape.

According to a legal blog, “BCBG is accused of trying to profit from Givenchy’s goodwill by selling “its knock-off ‘Rembrandt’ and other handbags that deliberately copy, line-by-line and stitch-by-stitch distinctive, non-functional elements of Givenchy’s Nightingale Trade Dress.”

What do you think? Is the BCBG bag an outright copy?

Not a Good Look: Christina Ricci in Givenchy

Givenchy Celebrates 'Artist Is Present' at MOMA

I think we all would agree that Christina Ricci did not look the business in this Givenchy frock. She looks all sorts of wrong with the chunky heels, and coming from a short person, I hate saying this, but she’s too damn short for it. Now if Gisele Bundchen we’re wearing it, would it not be a totally different story?
