Runway Recap: Gucci Resort 2012

    INSPIRATION

Frida Giannini, the current creative director for the popular design house, is known for her love of fashion interpretation and her ability to take past Gucci looks and re-create them in modern, fresh ways. Giannini also strives to make Gucci clothes more wearable for wide range of women in order to escape from the “party girl” image that the label previously attained. In fact, she noted that she wants “to understand an intelligent glamour, everyday luxury-things a woman can wear with sensuality, not just to show off here tits.”

    TOP TRENDS

For Gucci’s Resort 2012 collection, Giannini proved to believe in the same philosophy as many designers when considering the “in-between season”- drive sales by creating easy-to-wear separates. She delivered a collection that included color-blocking with strong solid colors such as gold and bronze metallics, neon yellow, purple, orange, deep taupes, and several variations on red as well as the standard staples-black and white. Giannini also utilized prints in a number of her looks, particularly Hawaiian-themed designs as well as both nautical and zebra-inspired stripes. As far as textures go, the Gucci Resort collection seemed to play with the contrast and interaction between pleated and crisp fabrics.

    ACCESSORIES

To tie her looks together, Giannini called on here accessories experience, she was formerly the label’s creative director of accessories, and smartly decided to use skinny belts, gold broaches, sky-high heels- both strappy wedges and closed-toe printed pumps, and a mix of oversize totes and minimalist clutches.

    FAVORITE LOOK

Giannini’s pleated metallic skirt look takes office-chic to a whole new level. From the top up, the model appears to be ready for a business meeting. When taken in as a whole outfit, however, the skirt makes the ensemble become something really special.

    THOUGHTS

While her experience with accessories is obvious, Giannini really shines as a womenswear designer through this collection. Her style is simple, yet she puts an emphasis on the details that really make a difference.

Gucci Designs Florence + the Machine’s Tour Costumes

First we heard Florence Welch was Gucci designer, Frida Giannini‘s new muse, now it’s been revealed that the costumes Florence will be wearing on tour with Florence + the Machine were designed by the Italian fashion house.

Florence raves: “I was completely bowled over by her collection. The dresses seemed perfect for my shows, the colours, the shapes, the movement in the fabric. So it seemed natural that we work together on creating some pieces for my upcoming U.S. tour.”

Speaking of their tour, I totally  missed their show in LA last night. Who went?

Florence Welch is Gucci’s Latest Muse

I'm A-muse-ing.

We have to say, Florence Welch of Florence + Machine definitely has the muse-factor considering her ethereal look. It’s no surprise Frida Giannini feels the same.

The creative director of Gucci tells Dazed Digital:

“As I was imagining this collection I was thinking of a strong and somewhat mysterious muse. Florence is that kind of woman. I met her in Los Angeles at this year’s Grammys and was captivated by her presence. She has a powerful personality and an entrancing quality to her performances. She also has that confident and self assured look that goes hand in hand with the Gucci woman.”

Get it Florence!

Naomi Campbell Talks About Her Haute Community Service Style

NEW YORK - MARCH 23: This composite image shows Naomi Campbell arriving or leaving the New York City Sanitation Department Depot on each day of her community service between March 19 and March 23, 2007. A couple of years back, Naomi Campbell caused an uproar in the media because she refused to sport delinquent chic outfits to community service.

Campbell appeared at the New York City Sanitation Department Depot on each day of  her week-long court ordered community service in style back in ’07 for striking her housekeeper in the head with her Blackberry.

The model explained her community service fashion choices to Grazia:

Grazia: It is so fabulous that you wore this to do community service!

Naomi Campbell: Well, I was done! Here, I was leaving for the day, I had finished!

G: But you wore couture every day, right?

N: Yep! Why shouldn’t I have done? Why should they expect me to go looking bedraggled or something?

G: When did you decide to dress like that?

N: I didn’t, it wasn’t planned at all. I decided on the day and I still gave them what they wanted, it didn’t stop me from doing what I had to do though.

G: You even did the work in the heels?

N: No. Not the heels! I wore boots – only heels when I was arriving and leaving!
