Runway Recap: Michael Kors Resort 2012

Inspiration:

Michael Kors looked to the sun soaked destination of Sydney, Australia for inspiration when it came to his Resort 2012 collection.  Who would have thought fluorescents and zebra print could be worn with ladylike boucle jackets to provide such a wearable day look?

Top Trends:

Fuchsia pink and lime green are juxtaposed with black accents and jackets and tailored trousers come in soft golds.  Silhouettes are reminiscent of scuba-diving wetsuits which have been given a glamorous yet sporty reinterpretation for 2012.

Accessories:

Flat, multi-strapped sandals, large framed sunglasses and thick, black belts complete with utility pouches accompanied the sporty looks of the collection.

Favourite Looks:

Kors definitely went with the mantra “save the best for last” with this collection, leaving the most impressive look until the end of the show, which came in the form of an exquisite, floor length fuchsia gown, complete with a thigh-high side split.  Another noteworthy look was the simple lime and black scuba-style shift dress, which could easily be dressed up or down.

Thoughts:

Michael Kors has successfully made scuba-diving inspired gear look good, which, as to be expected, is quite a feat.  The neon pieces work particularly well, either as stand-alone looks or when mixed up with zebra print.  The gold looks however seem a little incoherent, especially when considering the rest of the collection and would perhaps seem more at home in amongst similar pieces.  Sportswear will no doubt explode in 2012 and fashion fanatics need look no further than Kors’ resort collection for inspiration on the best way to dip their toe into the popular trend.

Quote Do Jour: Michael Kors- “I want a deal with In-N-Out Burger”

“I want a deal with In-N-Out Burger — to do a special sauce or a wrapper. I’m horseradish-obsessed!”

-Michael Kors wasn’t talking about revamping the uniforms.

Quote Du Jour: Michael Kors on Kate Middleton- “I would liken her to [Michelle] Obama and Carla Bruni”

Michael Kors

“When Barack Obama first became well known and everyone started looking at Mrs. Obama, I thought to myself, ‘This is a very different, modern-looking couple.’ When I designed the outfit for Michelle’s first official portrait, no one thought she would wear matte jersey, but she did. Past women in the same position had always worn a tailored suit. When I look at Kate I see a changing of the guard in what is considered elegant. She likes to look easy but chic. I would liken her to Obama and Carla Bruni in that way. All these women are in situations where they are shaking off the formal suits of their predecessors.”

Michael Kors Lends his Voice for the It Gets Better Campaign

Michael Kors has followed in the footsteps of other celebrities and industry elite by recording a message for the It Gets Better Campaign. The Trevor Project and the It Gets Better campaign is amazing as it provides today’s LGBT youth the hope and confidence they need to make it through their tormenting teen years.

Also if I could add a voice-over to Michael’s video I would say, “Look at me know bitch!”

Please don’t let close-minded idiots get to you. It really does get better, remember that.

DON’T FORGET TO WEAR PURPLE FOR SPIRIT DAY TODAY TO SHOW YOUR SUPPORT FOR THE LGBT COMMUNITY AS WELL AS FOR THE TEENS WHO TOOK THEIR LIVES THIS YEAR BECAUSE OF THEIR SEXUAL ORIENTATION.

Michael Kors: ‘Lady Gaga makes me feel the way I felt when I was 18′

Lady Gaga makes me feel the way I felt when I first went to FIT and I was 18 and going to Studio 54 five nights a week. At 18, you feel like the world is fabulous. I had no idea that New York was in full collapse, the city was bankrupt, there was garbage on the street. Back then you had energy, you had something that was a little left of center that changed people’s opinions and their attitudes. I think that’s what she’s doing right now.”

-Michael Kors goes on and on about Lady Gaga. We have to say, we feel the exact same way.
