Naomi Campbell made a bad name for herself in the late nineties with her bad temper and explosive personality. Nowadays she’s more relaxed and is known for her good deeds and charity work. Now that the supermodel has turned 40 she reflects back on her struggling days and looks ahead to the future.

On her addiction problems:

“The time between 1998 and 2005 was especially bad. During that time I avoided looking in the mirror, because I didn’t like the person who was looking back at me. To be honest, there were times I thought I wouldn’t survive. I used to have a lot of problems. Amongst others I drank too much so I joined Alcoholics Anonymous to get and stay sober.”

Looking forward to the future:

“I want to lead a calm life. I’m done with partying. When you get older things that seemed important to you when you were 20 suddenly lose significance. The thing is, as a model you’re used to being on the go, so just the thought of sitting down and thinking about something drives you crazy… So I had to find out what I wanted and what I didn’t want. I’ve grown up. I’ve stopped driving myself to exhaustion.”
