Bankrupt vs. Jackpot: Starfish Rings

Starfish are kind of a big deal this season with designers like Yves Saint Laurent, Trina Turk and Versace rolling out rings inspired by the sea creatures. Want to buy one of the high-end ones? We do too but we kind of can’t spend $400 on one so we found a cool alternative at H&M for the cost of a latte instead. Not bad huh?

Details: Yves Saint Laurent ring, netaporter.com, $440. H&M ring, hm.com, $4.

Runway Recap: Yves Saint Laurent Spring 2012

Inspiration: We don’t know what goes on in Stefano Pilati‘s brain but we know it’s amazing and if  we could guess, we’d assume he channeled a classy jet-setter from the 60′s a meets lady in shining armor for his spring 2012 Yves Saint Laurent collection.

Top Trends: Classic prints like paisley made a cameo as well as super trendy sea foam greens. There was gold metal embellisments and panels on everything from shoes and handbags to the buns atop the models’ heads.

Accessories: Pilati proves he’s brilliant when it comes to designing not only clothing but shoes and accessories once again. We kind of died over all of them including the gorgeous platforms slingbacks with metal reinforced toes, suede booties embellished with metal plates and the suede clutches finished with a gold, metal filigree type design.  The models rocked buns finished with awesome metal armor type scrunchie things.

Favorite Looks: The jewel-tone bomber jacket and skirt combo was really cool as well as the baby doll dresses and typical white suit.

Thoughts: This collection is very Pilati, very YSL chic and being a fan of the fashion house, I am beyond satisfied with Stefano’s work this season. The clothing and accessories were great and totally reminiscent of the 60′s and who doesn’t love the 60′s?

In Case You Missed It: Kate Moss’ Wedding

Does this mean the cray times are over?

On Friday, Kate Moss got married to her beau Jamie Hince in a gorgeous John Galliano gown. The model went the boho route, looking quite gorgeous in a dress inspired by Zelda Fitzgerald.

A source told WWD: “Kate is his biggest muse and he was never, ever going to let his friend down. He did Kate’s 21st birthday dress, her 30th birthday dress, and Galliano’s show was the first she ever walked for. So this wedding day ties up a lot of things beautifully.”

L’Amour Fou: A Documentary About Yves Saint Laurent & His Lover [Trailer]

For those who haven’t seen it yet, here’s a trailer of the Yves Saint Laurent documentary we’ve all been waiting to cross the shore, L’Amour Fou. It chronicles the designer’s business/intimate relationship with Pierre Bergé and even gives a look into the 2009 Christie’s auction of his elaborate art collection. For the YSL-obsessed (raises hand), this should be an insightful look into the relationship he had with Bergé, whom some speculate played the role of nurse and business parter versus love of Laurent’s life. You might have to bring the tissue to this one.

The movie opened in New York last week and will hit Los Angeles on May 20th.

Quote Du Jour: Christian Louboutin- “No one before me has ever used a coloured sole”

“I have the biggest respect for the house of Yves Saint Laurent. Having discussed the matter with them and not been able to reach an agreement, we have had to take this to court. My company has a trademark on the red sole and if we don’t enforce it this would leave the door open for other brands to copy us while jeopardising the identity of the Louboutin red sole. No one before me has ever used a coloured sole to define a brand’s identity. The red sole has become widely recognised as the distinct sign of my brand in the eyes of women all over the world.”

-Christian Louboutin brags and clarifies why he’s suing YSL.

Quote Du Jour: Stefano Pilati on Rumors of Getting Fired- ” I don’t let it go”"

Haters gon' hate.

“I don’t let it go. What is it about? I should be here, thinking about how beautiful my job is, and come to the office every day and work with colors and fabrics. But no, you have something that undermines you.”

“I am a creative person, so I am very vulnerable by nature. When you have the idea for a collection, you are really happy, and when you don’t have the idea, you are upset and down and grumpy. That is your daily life. And that vulnerability … it can also be fragility.”

-Yves Saint Laurent’s Stefano Pilati reveals to The New York Times.
